Gibson's brief response
Gibson's quick double, scored in the 46th and 48th minutes, provided a fleeting moment of hope. His goals came after O'Neill had struck twice and Bent converted his first spot-kick, giving Larne a commanding 3-0 lead. The fightback was short-lived, however, as O'Neill completed his treble in the 69th minute and Bent scored another penalty 12 minutes later to seal the 5-2 scoreline.
For O'Neill, the three goals were his first in the league this season. Larne manager Gary Haveron praised the striker's impact. "Paul O'Neill has really grabbed that leading role in the frontline as an out-and-out number nine," Haveron said.
Injury concern for Lusty
The defeat was compounded by an injury to forward Matty Lusty, who limped off with a suspected hamstring problem. The 23-year-old has been a key figure, scoring three goals in six league appearances this campaign. His potential absence is a significant blow ahead of a key run of fixtures.
Carrick's defensive issues were highlighted again, with two of the three goals Larne have conceded all season coming in this match. The team has now let in 13 goals in eight Premiership games, a record they will need to address quickly.
